Records plans in SL traffic – DN.se
Every day, nearly 700,000 people travel in Stockholm County with SL’s subway, buses, commuter trains, commuter boats and local lanes.
The trend has been for several years that the planks are getting fewer. In 2022, the proportion that traveled without a valid ticket was around 3 percent, in 2023 at 2.3. The declining cheat caused SL to withdraw SEK 42 million more in ticket revenue in 2024.
What is the reason for the changed behavior?
– We have focused on making it easy to do the right thing for themselves, now you can, for example, blip your bank card in the latch. We have not increased the price for those who have the toughest financial – pensioners, students and families with children – and we have increased the number of ticket controls, says Anton Fendertert.
Region Stockholm controls five million travelers each year, every day and all times of the day, using both uniformed and civilian -clad inspectors.
Why civilian dressed?
– To capture the travelers who are more vigilant, and people who turn at the latches if they see inspectors. But we also want visibility, it should be noticed that we do checks.
Where are the checks done?
– We have the most controls in the places and types of traffic where there are most travelers, but it is important to be seen on all types of traffic, says Anton Fendert.
Anyone who travels with SL without a valid ticket risks fines of SEK 1,850 – plus the cost of a single ticket, SEK 43 for adults.
Then the middle December is going on a pilot project with open block lines at the Näckrosen subway station in Solna.
How’s it going?
– We are doing a proper evaluation that will be completed this summer. It is important that as if there is any difference.
If the result is positive, should you move on more more open stations?
– It remains to be seen, but I think the money should be spent where they make the most benefit to travelers, on driving more traffic.
During the pandemic, the number of SL travelers collapsed. After Covid some came back but not all, the loss was 20 percent compared to 2019.
– Today we have worked up to 85 percent of the occupancy we had before the pandemic. The number of travelers is increasing, but unfortunately the number who takes the car is even more increasing, says Anton Fendert.
