Record number of participants at 9th Athletic Weekend « Ohrid Run »
Record 2,400 runners from 28 countries participate in the 9th edition of the Athletic Weekend « Ohrid Run » which is being held in Ohrid from May 30 to 1. This year the number of foreign participants in the races is also a record, which only confirms the reputation of the event that has been building a positive image for the city of Ohrid for nine years. This, among other things, was highlighted at a press conference today.
– This weekend will be full of energy, life, smiles and people who will feel the magic of the city, not only as tourists, but also as active participants in a sporting and social event that unites. « Ohrid Run » has a profound value for the local community, not only because it promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also because it directly affects the local economy, through fulfilled accommodation, visited restaurants, local businesses … – emphasized Jone Stankoski from AK « Ohrid ».
Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov noted that he plays that half of the number of racers are from other cities in Macedonia or abroad.
– I think this trend will continue in the future. I expect new, positive moments in the next 10 jubilee edition, primarily because of the innovation of the team leading « Ohrid Run ». Personally, I will always stand as a mayor in support of such events, especially in sports and I think we have plenty of what to say as a city in a joint organization with AK « Ohrid Run ». I wish everyone who participates in the various disciplines tomorrow to have a good race, a good time and of course to enjoy Ohrid – said Pecakov, who was given the starting number to take part in the five -kilometer recreational race.
This year’s « Ohrid Run » from the reported 2,400 athletes, 510 are half marathoners, 50 % of which are foreigners and there are 70 shutters, said Ivan Cvetkoski from AK « Ohrid Run ».
– This year « Ohrid Run » is the winner of a street racing certificate, which is an indication of the maximum effort and security in accordance with the traffic project and the directions of the SIA Ohrid in order for the runners to feel safe. Olympian Dario Ivanoski is with us again, we have interesting runners who are thrilled by what they look at in Ohrid. This year we have a rich program, yesterday we started the night race and the expo, today we have a panel discussion where we will talk about social responsibility, as well as Imlek Protein Warm Up – said Cvetkoski.
On Sunday there will be a temporary traffic regime between 8 and 11am. Ilija Mileski, Chief of the Police Department of the SIA Ohrid, added that an operational plan has been prepared with measures and activities in order to provide the safe participation of all competitors, as well as the citizens who will follow the event and traffic participants.
« All measures have been taken by us, and the media has informed the citizens during the temporary traffic regime for which a project has been prepared that has been approved and can be implemented – said Mileski.
The start of the 21k and 5K races tomorrow starts at 8:15 and 9 pm.
