The teenager from Sint-Laureins ended up in the hospital after he was knocked over last Thursday, around 11.20 pm by the 27-year-old JB from Eeklo. There was also a 19-year-old passenger from Maldegem in the car. According to the first statements, a discussion would have arisen about the sale of Vapes. The boy had broken eye sockets, a torn lower lip, various fractures in his lower jaw, a bruised right lung and two fractions on his right leg. After being in a coma for three days, his dad confirmed on Monday that he is awake.
During a reconstruction, all steps are re -executed and investigators check whether the statements of those involved and of witnesses can be true with reality. That should bring more clarity in the course of the evening.
The driver and his passenger, a 19-year-old boy from Maldegem, are currently in jail. The council chamber decided Tuesday to extend their arrest by at least a month. The driver is suspected of attempted manslaughter, the passenger for guilty absenteeism.
