– Reconciliation without nature use is not reconciliation

NSR says they want to reconcile – but meet an open wound with institutional building, not with viable measures that support the life we want to live. They choose to build new institutions and offices, but what is needed is the right to live as a sea – in the shoreline, on the fjord and in the mountains.

This plenary deals with the Sami Parliament’s own follow-up of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report in the Northern constituency- an area where Seaside Sami language, life form and culture have been pushed back for generations. Through the mapping of the constituency, the Sami Parliament has documented its own neglect to the residents and the seaside.

Revitalization of Seaside Sami culture does not happen in new institutions alone. It occurs in the shoreline – with seaweed and kelp under the nails. It happens on the fjord, with Klepp, Line and Yarn. It occurs in the boathouse, in the wood shot, on the scooter and in the boat. It happens in the outdoors, in the outfield. This is where Seaside Sami culture has always had its foothold.

When you need permission to fish in water you have used for generations, then it is not just the right to weaken food – it is the right to be yourself as a resident sea.

When the Sami Parliament is silent in the scooter trails and access to snow -covered mountains closed by the state manager, it is not just about politics – it is about identity. Natural use is our culture!

The Truth and the Norwegian Commission stated that the nature management has been a tool in the Norwegian. But NSR and their partners fail to take the fight to recapture the right to residents and seaside nature, also with the help of motorized traffic.

Without a basic turnaround – from institution to lived life – the reconciliation work will be another pussy attachment to a long history of neglect.

The Northern Calotte people are fighting for the culture of seaside and residue to be lived – not filed. For us, reconciliation is about strengthening the right to nature, language and living everyday life. The shoreline, the fjord and the mountain must again allow for all Sami lives – not just reminiscent of it.
