Reactionaries and collapsologists, you will not have our dreams – Liberation

How, at 20, think a more desirable future with lightness and joy? How to trust the future without giving up? For its second edition, the Festival Place a Tomorrow moved to Paris, at the Palais de la Porte Dorée, on Saturday June 14.

Once upon a time, there were rivers of cities, polar storms ice cream, flammable mattresses, spraying glaciers of life. Once upon a time, there was climate change, premonitory history written for fifty years by scientists, which we can today imagine how it could well end.

If we already know the epitaph, what good is it to be dismented? In recent years, the bottom of the air has been resigned. Our saturated society of red curves and outdated thresholds seems to dictate a single posture to adopt: that of hopeless lucidity, of disenchanted reason. We are intimate to us « Look at the face », And this gaze does not tolerate the detours of the imagination or the convolutions of the heart. But should we really choose between the truth of the present and the dream of the future? Between urgency and hope? We refuse these false alternatives.

« No one can prevent us from imagining another future, a future which is moving away from the disastrous cataclysm of violent conflicts, hateful divisions, poverty and sufferingwrote the activist a few years ago Rob Hopkins. Imagine today the worlds we would like to live, the long life we want to share and the many futures who are in our hands. ”

Dreaming is not to flee. On the contrary. It is to trace crest lines above the abyss. This is to materialize the objective to be achieved while waiting to clear the tracks to achieve it. It is to relearn to look up, not to forget the real, but to better reinvent it. It is to oppose the mechanics of disasters the calm force of a tenacious desire: that of relying our humanity, of building worlds where we do not trample the living, to make peace with otherness, to take care of the beautiful, the sensitive, the fragile.

Ecology should not become a lexicon of penance, a returned hourglass where each grain counts as a reproach. She can – she must – become a promise. An invitation to live in earth with elegance.

So in grace, let us not leave the imagination in the hands of advertisers, reactionaries or collapsologists. Let us take this fundamental right: that of dreaming aloud. To say that yes, tomorrow the forests will be nourishing, the energetically sober and socially brilliant housing, that there will be courses of future given in nature, municipal market gardeners in each city and village of France, that one day we will write a « declaration of the rights of the living », that we will work less to take care of others and the world …

We need concrete utopias, joyful stories, fertile horizons, self -regulatory prophecies. We need to say, without shame and without cynicism: yes, another world is possible. And even if it is late, it’s still time. The right to dream is not a luxury, it is a form of resistance, the discreet engine of all the right revolutions. Without him, ecology will remain an observation; With him, she can become momentum again. Chick?
