Rat raid in Birmingham – strike burying the city under tons of rubbish
Mice and rats have flooded every corner of Birmingham of England, where city cleanliness workers strike for at least three weeks.
The result is that tons of rubbish in the city have accumulated, with residents expressing strong concerns about public health.
The Municipality of Birmingham is in a dispute with the union representing cleanliness workers. Employees have blocked the garbage trucks from getting out of the train station to make collections from March 11.
The Small Heath area, the area, has turned into a « rat avenue » and residents are confronted with disgusting images and issues that threaten their health.

Sky News correspondent met Birmingham residents who are experiencing this brazen reality in the midst of the strike.
« I’ve seen many rats here. People are walking here and throwing their bags on top and I have to live next to it, ”said a man living there in the journalist.

The situation has escaped local government control and residents are calling for government intervention. « This strike must end soon. The government must intervene. This is my workplace, I don’t like to look at them, it’s awful. They will urinate all over the courtyard and I am constantly thinking about the diseases they could transmit, « people who live there say.
Rats multiply
While the roads are filled with rubbish which mainly include decisions, the rats flock and multiply. A pair of rats can make 200 babies. « Even when this mess is cleaned, they will go around here, as they still believe they can find food here, » the same report said.
The Birmingham Municipal Council declared the situation as a major incident, with reports of the ongoing strike of the bins. Local government minister Jim McMahon met with council leaders on Thursday in an effort to end the strike, saying that the government would « support local partners in the leadership of recovery » as they « consider further interventions ». However, no new measures were announced.
