This year it concerns 50 million euros and it will systematically go up to 250 million euros in 2029 in the coming months, the business newspapers write. In 2026 it will be 100 million euros, followed by 125 million in 2027 and 150 million euros in 2028.
This year, the NMBS has to save 45 million euros, of which 41 million euros from the permanent operating fee that receives the railway company of the State. The remaining bracket of 9 million euros on the amount of 50 million euros is equally distributed between NMBS and rail network manager Infrabel.
Both NMBS and Infrabel do not want to comment on the way in which these savings are achieved. In Infrabel, according to the government, investments must remain undisturbed, « to prevent aging of the components of the network ».
