Quantum stopped the production of TVs IRBIS

The only manufacturer of domestic televisions in Russia included in the register of Russian radio electronic products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Voronezh plant « Kwant » stopped their assembly. This is due to low demand, since foreign brands are mainly acquired on public procurement, market participants say. In their opinion, when stopping the production of register TVs, South Korean vendors will take their place, which, according to Kommersant sources, consider the possibility of a quick return to the Russian market.

“Kommersant” got acquainted with a letter from the CEO of Quanton LLC Mikhail Etonov to the market participants of March 17, which claims that the Kvant plant stopped the production of TVs of the Russian brand IRBIS for all diagonals (from 32 to 65 inches). It is also said that the resumption of production in the second and third quarters of 2025 is not planned. Kommersant sources, close to the company, claim that we are talking about registered TVs and the refusal of the plant is associated with low demand for such products, as well as a long design of documents for being in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. At the same time, the Quantum plant is the only one in the Russian Federation that produces register TVs. In the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Kwante and IRBIS did not answer Kommersant.

According to Spark-Interfax, the legal entity of Kvant LLC was registered in June 2016 in Zelenograd (Moscow Region), 100% of the company belongs to Mikhail Etonov. The revenue of the LLC for 2023 amounted to 15.9 billion rubles. With a net profit of 3.2 million rubles. Among the property, the company indicates a building in Voronezh for 54 thousand square meters. m. According to data from the Kvant website, it is there that the company’s plant is located. It is also indicated that there are four settings of TV assemblies that can produce up to 3.5 thousand TVs per shift. Among the partners are DNS, LG Display, Yandex, BBK, etc.

Earlier, the largest customer for the production of televisions of Kvant was Chinese Xiaomi and TCL, however, due to sanctions risks, Chinese companies stopped supplying components in the Russian Federation, which is why Kwant began the construction of a plant in Kazakhstan (See “Kommersant” from August 1).

According to Contour.pups, in 2024, 4.6 thousand tenders for the purchase of TVs were published as part of public procurement, this is 15% more of the results of 2023. In money, the indicator decreased by 6.6%, to 3.3 billion rubles. According to 223-ФЗ, purchases increased by 10.5%, to 2.1 thousand tenders, in money, the indicator increased by 28%, to 4.05 billion. According to the site, mainly through public procurement the LG, Sony, Samsung, Xiaomi, Haier and other foreign vendors were purchased.

Quantum was the only manufacturer of registry TVs, but now they stopped their production, confirmed by the director of the Marvel-Distribution Department of the KBT Larisa Senina.

“Other manufacturers will not be able to fulfill the conditions for public procurement for TV, and now state -owned companies are considering the products of Chinese vendors gaining popularity as an alternative,” she emphasizes. According to Mrs. Senina, all products produced at the Quantum factory occupies about 10-15% of the TV market in the Russian Federation.

However, for the retail buyer, the IRBIS brand TVs are not suitable because of their high price against the background of competitors, says Vladislav Borodin household electronics department of OCS. “Sales in the business segment, most likely, were not enough for the production to be economically feasible,” he emphasizes.

TVs from the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade “are not more Russian than the products of numerous private brands of TV presented in the Russian market,” says DNS representative. At the same time, according to him, the entering the TV into the register requires many resources from the manufacturer with low margin. A year earlier, a number of manufacturers were asked by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to reduce the entry threshold to the registry for TVs, as well as gaining further advantages at public procurement (See “Kommersant” dated February 29, 2024).

Now in the commercial and state segments of televisions in the Russian Federation there are about 70 different brands, mostly foreign, says the source of Kommersant in the market of household appliances. According to him, the South Korean vendors LG and Samsung occupy a large share in this segment. “With a possible return of companies to the Russian market, they will increase the share of sales in this segment,” he assures. The plans of the South Korean vendors to return to the Russian market were previously told by Kommersant sources among manufacturers of household electronics and distributors.
