Qatar’s emir pleased Putin for Russian bases in Syria
Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Tani told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the new government in Syria is eager to build ties with Moscow. This happened during the Kremlin conversations on Thursday.
Russia is trying to ensure the preservation of the two military bases in Syria after the authorities there changed and the ally of Moscow Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December and replaced by a new temporary government, headed by President Ahmed al-Charaa.
« As for Syria, a few days ago, President Al-Sharaa was in Qatar and we talked to him about the historical and strategic relations between Syria and Russia. He is willing to build relations between the two countries based on mutual respect, » Putin’s emir said.
The Russian president, for his part, expressed his willingness to provide humanitarian assistance to Syria and said that Moscow would like to see her sovereign and independent, as well as within her territorial limits.
Russia has two military bases in Syria – the Air Force near Latakia and the Navy in Tartus.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia has a dialogue with all regional players in the Middle East about its relationships with Syria.
The two leaders also discussed the Gaza situation, where Qatar played a key role in mediation in January between Israel and Hamas to end the fire. Putin regretted that the efforts to continue did not work.
The Russian Interfax agency quotes the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that there was no significant discussion about the war in Ukraine, but Putin expressed gratitude for the participation of Qatar in the settlement of the return of children from both sides who were separated by their parents during the war.
Russia and Qatar have signed an agreement on Thursday, according to which each country will pay an additional € 1 billion in a joint investment fund in search of more Qatari money for Russian projects.

The head of the Russian direct investment fund Kiril Dmitriev said, they will focus on technologies, healthcare, minerals and other sectors of mutual interest.
The Qatar Investment Fund and the Russian Fund launched a joint venture for $ 4 billion in 2014.
