Putin’s right hand with gloomy prediction: More nuclear weapons on the way

In a startling posting on the social media telegram accuses Medvedev according to TV 2 The United States and its allies for having « pushed the world against the brink of World War II ».
He believes they have done this by imposing sanctions against Russia and supporting Ukraine militarily in the war, which he describes as an « indirect war against Russia ».
Medvedev is one of Vladimir Putin’s closest supporters and has in recent years marked himself with increasingly harsh rhetoric.
Now he warns that even a possible peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine will not change the bleak image:
« Even if there is peace, it will be impossible to imagine nuclear disarmament in the coming decades, » he writes.
On the contrary, he predicts a more dangerous future where new, more destructive types of weapons are being developed and where more countries will strive to get nuclear weapons.

The announcement comes in a time when tensions between Russia and the West are still high – and where the fear of escalating the conflict in Ukraine has grown again. Medvedev’s statements will hardly dampen the concern.
