Putin unveils new Russian nuclear -powered submarine
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin attended the launch of a new nuclear submarine in Murmansk yesterday, equipped with zirconian hippersonic missiles.
The submarine bears the name Perm, after the city in the Urals and is the first armed with the zircon hypersonic missiles, up to 1,000 kilometers and fly nine times faster than the sound.
-We continue to produce modern rocket submarines, this is the fifth submarine as part of the Jasen-M project. We expect the submarine to be part of the Navy next year and to perform combat tasks – Putin said.
He announced the strengthening of the Russian Navy and equipping with state -of -the -art weapons, technology and communication systems.
– These submarines and ships will further strengthen our fleet, strengthen Russia’s maritime security and provide protection to the northern sea. It will help preserve Russia’s national interests in different parts of the World Ocean, including the Arctic, which today has extremely economic, logistical and strategic importance in the context of increased global competition. We will continue to do everything to safeguard Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and consolidate its status as a leading naval force – Putin said.
