Putin dreams of controlling the whole Ukraine, but I will not allow that

US President Donald Trump has stated during an interview with American television ABC that he believes Vladimir Putin wants to end the war with Ukraine, while admitting that it is « possible » that Russian President « can support » in continued peace negotiations.

Trump said he believes Putin « would like to stop the war », adding, « Yes, I think he would like. His dream was to take control of the whole country. I think because of my reason, he won’t do it. »

Asked by ABC’s Terry Moran, however, if he trusts Russian President, Trump hesitated on the matter.

« I don’t trust you. I don’t trust many people. But I think he, let’s say he respects me, and I believe that because of my reason, he will not take control of all Ukraine, but his decision, his choice, would be to take control of all Ukraine, » Trump said.
On Saturday, after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before starting Pope Francis’ funeral, Trump questioned whether Putin wanted a peace deal.

In a post on social truthes sent as he returned from Rome after the meeting, Trump raised the opportunity to implement new sanctions against Russia after her attack on Kiev last week, writing that Kiev’s air bombing « makes me think he probably doesn’t want to stop the war. »

In Tuesday’s interview with ABC News, Trump provided details on Saturday’s meeting with Zelensky, saying to Moran:

« The moment was a moment of comfort, in a way, because an extraordinary number of people are dying, many of his people are dying, being killed and I feel very bad for it, » he added.
