Puccini Madama Butterfly production at the Latvian National Opera celebrates centenary / day
The performance of the year 1925 was conducted by conductor Janis Medins together with director Sofia Maslovsk, as well as decoration with costume artist Eduards Vitols. Starring Ada Benefelde, Nicholas Vasilyev, Elza Žubīte and Albert Werner were delighted. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, the conductor’s desk will take place in the performance of 24 May 2025, and we will enjoy the mastery of the Latvian National Opera soloist Tatyana Trenogina, Andris Ludviga, Ilona Bagele and Jānis Apeins. The audience of the festivities at 18.00 in the Beletage Hall is invited to attend an event to meet Vladimir Okun, director of the 1994 and 2006 renewal, as well as Kristin Pasternak, the artist of the renewal costume. The opera historian Mikus Čeže will give an insight into the interesting past. Thanks to the responsiveness of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the visitors of the event will have a special opportunity to look at Vītols in 1925, the original design of the Cho-Cho-San, and the centenary of Cho-Cho-San’s centenary black Kimono will delight.
Madama butterfly The performance in our theater has been restored eight times and preserves the beauty of the historic staging of 1925. The production of the Latvian National Opera, which tells about the unfortunate love of the Japanese girl for the American officer, is considered one of the oldest operations still in the repertoire in the world.
