PS says that social security system is at risk with AD

The PS leader defended on Thursday that the Social Security system is « at risk with an AD government. » Pedro Nuno Santos also warned of the signs of the temptation of PSD executives to “a reduction in the rights of those who work”.

« We have a duty to warn of risks with regard to our public pension system, our social security system, one of the most important achievements of our people following April 25, are at risk with an AD government, » said the socialist secretary general.

To justify this reform, according to the socialist leader, who intervened in the start of the second day of the sectoral sessions with a view to updating the electoral program for legislatures, the PSD/CDS-PP government has been “carrying in dramatization and fear over social security sustainability”.

« We do not share dramatization, this does not mean that we are no longer in an important debate about the future of social security, namely about the diversification of the sources of financing that we have started in the past with José António Vieira da Silva, » he said, with the former minister sitting next to him.

According to Pedro Nuno Santos, the PS has to continue to wage a political combat « against the temptations that PSD governments will always have that they have governance responsibilities. »

« In these months they have not yet been able to do what their usual project is, but the speech about the rigidity of the job market has already returned and we know when we hear PSD leaders or rulers talk about the rigidity of the labor market, the need for flexibility, this usually means a reduction in the rights of those who work on the name of labor market adaptation to a new economy, » he said, quoted by the Lusa agency.
