Protest of the academic community in front of the Government: Members of the Rebel University submitted the requests to the Government (photo) – Society

Members of the academic community, students and citizens who are in front of the Serbian government departments, within the protest « Faculties at the crossroads », posted by victims of a canopy at the train station in Novi Sad.

Members of the Rebel University prior to that, they surrendered their requests to the Government of Serbia.

« This is not a fight only university teachers and the struggle for the University, but for the whole company », said after submission of the request.

Jovana Bila Dubaić, a member of the Initiative Rebelled University, addressed the media, ordering that we are a long time ago at the crossroads at the social level.

« This government has long been trying to prevent education and put it in the canals of obedience to what we do not agree. This is not only the question of the academic community, » she said.

She called on citizens to join them in front of the Government.

She said that this is now a little more radical step.

« We are here and we want our voice to be heard. That’s why we carefully chose the location. There are no worse than this, » said a member of the rebellious university.

She explained what the demands of the academic community were.

Speaking of the requirement for disabling the working group for amendments to the Law on Higher Education, said the work of that working group is not based on public insight and that there is no inclusive debate. She also said that most members of this working group are absolutely not deserving to be there and write law, because most has long pleaded that it is against the university autonomy.

Another request is the urgent abolition of the unconstitutional Regulation 35/5, which was made overnight to make the academic community, which supported students, punished.

« It was not thought that the effect would not only be a reduction in our salaries – that regulation degrades scientific research work and artistic research, which is the foundation of the University, » said a member of the Rismped University.

She added that the third request concerns the entire country, and that is to approve budget quotas for enrolling new students.

« It is impermissible to blackmail us and that the graduates are in uncertainty, that they cannot enroll in colleges who want, » she said.

The protest is directed at three key requirements: disbanding a working group for the development of the new Law on Higher Education and Opening of Public, Inclusive Discussion; The abolition of illegal changes to the Regulation on the standards of work of the University and rehabilitation of their consequences and adoption of budget quotas for college enrollment no later than June.
