BRATISLAVA. « You are faced with a historical decision, » they bequeathed President Petr Pellegrini Organizers of Thursday’s protest in Bratislava.

We don’t want such a world

Not bullying, Andrej Vršanský, director of the League for Mental Health, started his speech at the Freedom Square. The gentlemen from the Government Office consciously transform the environment according to their ideas, bully us, but allow bullying of all others who help, he added.

« It is not a law on transparency, it is the power of power that gives the state new tools for bullying, and you, gentlemen from the Government Office, have already shown how you want to use them, » Vršanský said about the NGO Act.

« We were faded because such things are happening in their mental world. They think everyone is cheating, living in a world of suspicion, » Vršanský said. « But that’s not our world. We don’t want such a world. »

Lucia Szabo from the Platform for Democracy said that NGOs would be unnecessarily bullied. It described the law as a disproportionate interference with the liberty of associations of citizens, which is contrary to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic.

NGOs will not have a capacity for their own work, Szabo said. « This is not about transparency, it is about discrimination and unnecessary bureaucracy. This law is unclear and easy to abuse and tens of thousands of organizations will be affected. »

She, too, called on President Pellegrini to return the law to parliament.

« Where else do you have to catch up, what to do, to tell, to hurt? » Michal Hvorecký presented in his protest poem. « We are still too gentle on them, although the state is their hostage. »
