Protest before the Ministry of Economic Affairs | Luxembourg word
Since Liberty Steel filed for bankruptcy in December 2024, the remaining 150 employees have continued to be responsible for the maintenance and security of the location. At the same time, they are forced to look for a job elsewhere or report unemployed, although they were theoretically promised a job, the unions of OGBL and LCGB criticize and therefore protested before the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Monday morning.
Economic Minister Lex Delles has already told the « Luxembourg word » that the matter was now solely in the hands of the insolvency administrator. He found a potential buyer a few weeks ago, but « the sales process takes too long and increases the uncertainty of the employees who have the feeling that they are forgotten in this transition phase, » explain the unions.
Luxembourg is faced with a situation for which neither the legal framework nor the instruments of crisis management are really suitable. « This transition between bankruptcy and takeover reveals a vacuum that urgently has to respond, » says the staff representatives.
OGBL and LCGB demand: a more concrete state intervention to facilitate and accelerate the takeover of the location, as well as « solutions to accompany the employees during this transition period and guarantee the future of industrial plants and employment in Dudelingen ». When asked why the sales process extends for so long, the insolvency administrator has not answered any answer.
