Proposes the Council of Ministers on Prisoners' Affairs

Inga Zealand, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, announced without notice yesterday that she intended to propose to the Government that the Council of Ministers be appointed on prisoners' issues.

Rules assume that the Prime Minister will decide on the appointment of the Council of Ministers, with the approval of the government, but has not been reached in Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir for the matter.

Was excited by the assignment of a position and wants to appoint a committee

Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, chairman of the position, a company of prisoners in Iceland, confirms this in a conversation with a journalist, who had previously received the weather from the proposed Council of Ministers.

Gudmundur says the minister has announced this to grants yesterday, but Guðmundur gave a talk where he said about the prison position, for each position was to work, which is a diverse group of prisoners and their families, as well as emphasizing how socially important and lucrative it was.

« After this speech, Inga said: » I was just deciding now here in this speech that I intend to propose to the government that it will be set up by the Council of Ministers on prisoners. «

Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, chairman of the position, the Association of Prisoners, is hopeful that the Minister's signatures will be fulfilled.

Never been more optimistic

Guðmundur says such a committee is exactly what the organization calls for.

« We want prison management to move to the Prime Minister's Office, because it is missing the foreman of prison. The Minister of Justice would continue to carry out the operations of prisons and prison guards and make all decisions on prisoners and their punishments, but there are just so many other ministries that come to such as the Ministry of Education, Health, and Social Affairs, who have failed and have been nothing to do. As a result, the foreman is missing for the system to work.

That is why I wanted to have such a committee that took strategic decisions in this area, hired procedures and even some kind of ruling committee on prisoners' complaints towards the Ministry of Justice, ”says Gudmundur.

He says the issue is about the fact that from prisons, people who are qualified to come out in the community graduate, learn something and use the time, instead of graduating from there rather than the disabled.

« I get so optimistic when new managers come and then you always get as angry and wounded when it doesn't happen. This is how it has over the years. But I have never been as optimistic as now that the minister decides that now she intends to propose to the government to appoint this committee and I hope it will be, because we need it, « says Gudmundur hopefully about the future.
