Progressive Romania plays hard

The Euromanifest of Saturday afternoon showed as a success of the organizers. He said that Romania has a very powerful segment of pro-European population. And progressive, at the same time.

The manifesto in Victoriei Square and the other cities in the province (more modest in Timisoara!) Shows us this. The population of Romania has remained divided into two major orientations, not to mention camps. The same strong national party, located in a spectacular return with the appearance of Călin Georgescu, and the same match of abroad, connected to the world's great currents and power centers.

And this time, the party of abroad expressed quite convincingly in the demonstration of supporting a counterfeit, pre-concept attitude, according to which its pro-Europeanism would be in danger, that the dictatorship follows, that Romania would leave NATO and the EU and other international bodies.

The statements, despite their falsehood, continue to have strength and militants. It is as if someone mobilized thousands of people in favor of the right to travel (life or love), despite the fact that no one opposes and that their opponents also travel and love them and they do not want to stay home.

Many have answered because younger Romanians believe that their travels, jobs in multinational societies, sexual freedoms, customs and rights are threatened.

The manifesto launched in Victoriei Square formulates publicly and clearly for supporters (but also for important chancellors) a major line change in Romania's policy.

In our turn, we must do everything in our power so that our children and grandchildren and great -grandchildren can be, in turn, Romanian and European. To be able to enjoy, like us, all that the European Union means: democracy, rule of law, human rights, minority rights, freedom of expression, free circulation. We live a terrible historical moment, in which we can lose this Europe that was our destiny. From a natural presence, Europe can become a memory for us. That we will be able to tell our children and grandchildren-but it will be impossible for us to explain why we did not make it possible for them. Why we did not do everything in our power in 2025, and even more so, so that they could enjoy European Romania. To be a real presence for them – not an increasingly distant memory. We must keep Romania in its European destiny.

For us – and for our children – and for the children of our children. Romania we leave must be at least as good as Romania we received. Not a dictatorship, not an autocracy, not an illiberal regime. But a democracy: imperfect, but perfectable; unequal, but learning to distribute its prosperity more and more; Traumatized by totalitarian past, but therefore, therefore, the more freedom. The European Union is the destiny of Romania. Let us use our voices, professions, votes so that we make sure they stay that way. The European Union is the destiny of our children. We have no right to steal this destiny. Or let's abandon the fight for him. Our children are Europe. We have no right to forget that. And we won't forget. And we will overcome. Europe is the only destiny acceptable for Romania. ″

Mobilization and pathetic proved to be convincing, despite the rumors that, after the suspension of American funds, the mechanism fed from the outside would be suckled. Nothing more fake. The whole network based on the match of abroad has moved its support to Brussels and remained connected to parties, public institutions and domestic services.

I waited for this rally set up by the 40 NGOs and people close to or from the Soros network to see how those who, to an order, filled the Victoria Square to block whatever they asked for. And they mobilized again, a sign that the structure is viable, the functional mechanism and the target audience called for available support. He responded to order to show the world that in Bucharest the orientation of national policy has changed.

One thing seems to be truly new. At yesterday's demonstration I did not notice any sign of the groups from the diaspora. Until recently, those who went to work abroad were the supporters of the right -wing parties, of the European current, of the European integration, of a country « as outside ». After things have changed in Europe and they gave even harder, economic emigration seems to have turned with their eyes and soul at home, a sign that it has rediscovered the importance of the homeland, its identity of history, language and customs.

On Saturday, in Romania it was the day of those who rushed to emphasize that they see in the European model, in the orientation of the European Commission, a chance for the future.

Over the ocean, Marietje Schaake, a member of the Cyber ​​Policy Center of Stanford, told CNN (taken by Hotnews) that the American right-right transformed Georgescu into a « symbol of what is wrong with European democracy », which falls into their « wider agenda of the European Union ».
