School Complex prof. Janusz Groszkowski in Mielec is currently undergoing a general renovation. The works include the roof, as well as the interior of the building, which remembers the nineteenth century. The investment is carried out using funds from the government’s monument reconstruction program. The total value of work is over PLN 4 million, of which 1.5 million was allocated to the roof renovation.
Mielec. Renovation continues, students go to school
Due to the age -old nature of the structure, robots are carried out in stages. During the work Part of the school is excluded from use, but daily lessons take place in other rooms. It was in this part that disturbing events occurred.
Although the modernization of the building was long -awaited, students admit that learning in such conditions is very uncomfortable.
Noise comes from above. We are not able to focus by writing a test or answering at the board. The noise drowns us out. Drilling and a bang are still heard
– reports one of the students in an interview with Polish Radio.
Construction works, although conducted outside of classrooms, affect the course of classes. Students and teachers must face difficult conditions every day, including with constant noise and dust floating in the air.
Dangerous incident – a piece of ceiling fell off
A dangerous event occurred last week, when a fragment of plaster broke off the ceiling in a busy corridor. The piece fell right next to the classroom door, fortunately the corridor was empty at that moment.
Colleagues who had lessons next to them reported that everyone was scared. Some later wondered whether to come to school at all. One day such a piece may fall, and the other may happen to a larger accident in which someone will suffer
– says the student.
According to the information obtained by the editors, the plaster most likely got hit as a result of the deduction of brick by one of the employees cleaning the attic.
Liquid water and electronics – a dangerous connection
Another problem also appeared in the same part of the building – the leaking roof caused the ceiling to flood. The water began to drip to the floor in the computer room, where classes were held a moment earlier. The buckets were placed under a leaking ceiling to prevent flooding.
To be honest, I had to have my hand on the pulse. However, this is dangerous when we work with electronics until the ceiling is pouring water
– says the student participating in the classes.
Leak problems are not only a threat to equipment – Students and teachers also complain about the smell of moisture, which floats on the whole floor. – You can also feel the mushroom – says one of the students. – For example, I have a problem with asthma. There it stinks that I couldn’t breathe. I had to take a sweatshirt and cover my nose – adds another student.
The insulation of the renovated zone is also anxious. Students note that the security is provisional – the passage was separated only by benches and a card with the inscription « Prohibition of admission ».
The reaction of the authorities of Mielec
Despite numerous attempts, the Polish Radio 24 editorial office failed to contact the school headmaster. None of the people present in the facility felt competent to comment. Ultimately, the poviat eldership, which sent to the school inspector to school.
As established, the fragment of the ceiling discussed probably fell as a result of an unfortunate event involving a renovation employee. The eldership also announced that there was a meeting with the contractor and the school head to discuss the security issue.
At the same time, it was assured that the part of the building on which the work is not carried out remains safe. Other relationships – both students and video documentation – suggest that the places used by students are located near the renovation zone.
