Prisoners’ exchange between Ukraine and Russia / day has begun

Both sides agreed on exchange at the beginning of the month in Istanbul.

« The Ukrainians return home from Russia. Today, an exchange began, which will continue in several stages in the coming days, » said Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.

The President noted that wounded and seriously injured soldiers, as well as soldiers under the age of 25, would return home.

« The process is quite complicated, there are many sensitive details, and the talks continue practically every day, » the president added.

« We believe that the humanitarian agreement reached at the Istanbul meeting will be fully implemented. We do our best to return. We are working on it at all levels, » Zelensky emphasized.

The Coordination Staff of the Ukrainian prisoners said that the total number of persons released for security reasons would be made public after the exchange process was completed.

The first group of released soldiers under the age of 25 is currently returning home. Among the released are representatives of the Naval Forces, Land Force, Ukrainian Territorial Protection Forces, Air Force, Air Force, Border Guard, National Guard and State Special Transport Service.

Among the liberations are the defenders of Mariupol, who have spent more than three years in captivity.

Along with the exchange of prisoners, work on the exchange of corpses of fallen soldiers will continue.
