Prison Guard detained in demonstration on April 25 suspended

The prison guard arrested at the far-right manifestation at Rossio on April 25 has a disciplinary proceedings instituted by the prison service inspection service. The Ministry of Justice reported on Tuesday that the guard was suspended of duties for 90 days.

According to information advanced by SIC and Expresso, the third detained at the far-right demonstration in Lisbon on April 25-beyond the militant Neonazi Mário Machado and the former Judge and party leader Rui Fonseca and Castro-is João Vaz.

Vaz is a prison guard of the Carigueira Prison Prison (EP), convicted in 2022 to six months in prison for possession of a banned weapon in the Hammerskins process.

The Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP) confirmed the arrest of “a prison guard of the EP of the Carigueira” and added that “already runs disciplinary proceedings at SAI (audit and inspection service, directed by MP magistrate that works with the DGRSP)”.

Disciplinary process was “opened following information transmitted by the Criminal Police (OPC)/MP agency, since it profile a certain ideology, outside the professional context, is not only the subject of disciplinary procedure”.

According to information from prison services, « DGRSP also determined for the prison guard the precautionary suspension of functions for 90 days, suspension that it will be briefly notified. »

In the Hammerskins process, 27 defendants were tried for racial and sexual hatred crimes, body offenses, incitement to violence, attempted murder, drug trafficking and prohibited weapon possession.

The 27 were connoted with the Portugal Hammerskins Movement (PHS) – a group that extols white superiority – and were accused, among other facts, to have violently assaulted several people in the area of ​​Lisbon, including homosexuals, immigrants and communist militants.
