Priests free to take a political stance
Thorgrímur Daníelsson, chairman of the Priesthood Society of Iceland, says that the company has not decided whether it is appropriate to grant the 17 -year -old Oscari Anders Florez Bocanegra residence permit, as his family in Iceland demands.
However, he does not comment on the fact that 30 ordinary priests have signed a statement published yesterday, saying they support the boy’s family claim that he be granted a residence permit in Iceland.
« There has been no agreement on the matter in the priesthood. However, the annual general meeting of the Priesthood Society is on Monday. I do not know if this will be addressed there under other matters.

Nothing prohibiting priests from taking a stand
He says nothing wrong with the fact that priests come together and describe their position on the various issues.
« Priests are completely free of whether they take a public stance on matters. There is nothing that prohibits priests from taking a stand on the various politics. »
He does not know whether all priests have been invited to accept the statement.
« If so, it has happened to me. I have been busy in another so I can’t say that, » says Thorgrímur.
