Pride is about security and pride

Then it is finally June. The grass raises green, the sun looks a little more often and the temperature increases. June is a special month. For June 1, almost all sorts of companies and political parties change colors. Not to a particular color, but the colors in the rainbow. June is the Pride month.

This little change obviously causes many to react. Facebook floods of trolls and one can hear that « why should they have a whole month? » And « Pride stands for radical gender theory! », As well as many claims that are much worse. The outer edges of the debate try to chop each other about what Pride really is.

KrF has the program that one should not flag with Pride flags in schools because « it is an ideological choice ». Justified because the Pride flag is associated with the organization Fri.

This meaningless debate about what Pride really means, no one earns. And what is KrF think about children in Norwegian schools? The last thing I think a child in primary school thinks about when he sees a rainbow flag is « what it means radical gender theory » or that it belongs to free. I think the child just thinks it’s fun with a rainbow. Just as the children around the country drawn the rainbow with everything will be good in 2020.

The rainbow signals security and hope, but for some it may mean a little extra. For the little boy who discovers that he has feelings for another boy in the class. Then the rainbow can show him that here he is both accepted and wanted. I even remember the first time I was wearing the colors of the rainbow. The pride of showing who you are and say no to all the hatred that exists, I will never forget.

This security and pride is not provided. Homo is still the most widely used curse word in Norwegian schools. Last year at Tjuvholmen, a gay couple in their 20s were attacked. One was stabbed and the other prone to violence of three young boys of 18, 17 and 15 years. Police should have found a picture of one boy burning a Pride flag. So it was no coincidence that those who were attacked were gay.

Not to forget the tragic terrorist attack in 2022. Such events just tell us that Pride is still necessary. When gays cannot go safely in all possible nooks and crannies of this country, then the fight is not over. For no one is actually free until everyone is free. So remember it before you sit in front of the keyboard and write.

Pride is not about radical gender theory or a single organization’s opinions. Pride is about people. Pride is about a society that says yes to everyone can love who they want. Pride is about security and pride. I sincerely hope you celebrate this great month. There is rarely love harming a society, happy pride!
