Pressure of resources will increase

Svandís Svavarsdóttir says the resources of Iceland are the common property of the nation and this should not be provided for in the Constitution. This she says applies to all the resources of the country, not just the fish in the sea.

Svandís, chairman of the Left Green and former minister, was the guest of Areels Pétursson, chairman of the Sailors ‘Day Council, in the sea throw, the Sailors’ Day Council.

In the episode, Ariel Svandís asked how her vision, that the resource of the sea should be the common property of the nation, could be realized. This vision appears in the project our resources and has been in Svandís’ speech over the years.

« He is not just domestic, he comes from outside »

« First and foremost through the natural resources in the Constitution, » Svandís replied. It is important to provide, in the basic law of the nation, that the resources are owned by the nation, whether for fish, water or energy.

Ariel then recalled the words of Jose Mujica, or Pepe as he is called, former Uruguayan president – « who said someday that if a politician wants to change the constitution then it is because he wants to get power tomorrow that he does not have today ».

At the same time, he stated that he thinks Svandís is right, possibly the constitutional provisions are the only logical answer.

« We have landed it with water in Thorlákshöfn, we have landed with a geothermal energy as a resource in the Suðurnes region, that just such » oops  » – this has come from our nation’s hands. »

Svandís agreed with these words and told those who ponder climate change, global warming and the effects on the biota realize that economic pressure on resources will continue to increase.

The pressure she says international. « He is not just domestic, he comes from outside. »

It is of great importance to the sovereign and independent state to have written into its legal basis what understanding of how this is intertwined, independence and sovereignty and then the resources.

Svandís sat in parliament for the Left Green for 15 years.

The land of foreigners

Ariel says that part of the sovereignty is that the nation is the owner of its own country and asks as to what Svandís thinks about the land purchases that have taken place in Iceland by foreigners.

Svandís claims that it needs to be very careful in this regard. It is necessary to stop the regulations in Iceland in such a way that foreign wealthy can buy land or Skaga – « then it has become so short that it is only a whole quarter ».

« Yes, and then we are no longer a sovereign nation, » Ariel signs them.
