“I regret the conduct of the coalition, which again rejected two possible candidates for the post of Governor of the Bank of Slovenia without any substantive explanation. As in the case of Mr. Rop, this time we are talking about competent, professional and internationally recognized candidates who have been prepared to direct their knowledge and experience to the responsible management of the Bank of Slovenia. » Nataša Pirc Musar responded to the coalition’s decision to reject her possible candidate for the governor.
The president offered as a candidate Damjana Kozamernika, Director of the Department of Strategy, Sustainable Development and Research at SID Bank, and Ksenia Senko Mavera former representative of Slovenia at the World Bank in Washington, who is currently serving in Rwanda as a project manager at the German Development Agency GIZ. In the past, both have worked at the Bank of Slovenia and have extensive professional and management experience in the banking field.
In response, Pirc Musarjeva wrote that “Slovenia deserves an independent governor who will enjoy professional reputation and international confidence. Coalition behavior, where candidates are rejected simply because ‘you can’ and ‘because they are not ours’, with the fact that their professionalism is completely overlooked, does not lead to strengthening institutions, but to their devaluation. «
She added that « the process of finding a suitable candidate will continue with the same measure of severity and openness. I will find new candidates, as I told the coalition pages at the last meeting, but I am always ready to listen to their new proposals. The Bank of Slovenia’s stable, independent and professional management is certainly in the interest of the country.
Our common task and responsibility should be to obtain a credible governor and guardian of human rights, not a party bargain and pre -election calculation. I believe that Slovenia deserves more – more respect for institutions, more substantive dialogue and more responsibility than those elected to serve public interest. Therefore, when looking for candidates for governor and the Ombudsman, I will not deviate from the standards required by these functions. «
