Potsdam’s SPD Mayor elected in the event of a citizens’ decision
The Mayor of Potsdam, Mike Schubert, has been voted out. In the case of a citizens’ decision, 68.3 percent of the voters spoke for the premature end of the controversial office SPD-Rathaus bosses, as the city announced after counting the votes cast. The necessary quorum of at least 25 percent of those entitled to vote was also barely exceeded with the votes made.
After around seven years in office, Schubert was considered to be damaged because of a VIP ticket affair. He had accepted free tickets for sporting events. The 52-year-old was also criticized for his leadership style and personnel querels.
City factions had been in the clinch with Schubert for a long time
The SPD alone supported Schubert, who was elected head of town hall in 2018. All other city fractions called for a new beginning of the city at the top of the city, which makes a national talk through the Barberini Museum of Kunst patron Hasso Plattner and Sanssouci Castle. (dpa)
