The Federal Coalition Agreement gives employees the opportunity to resign themselves once during their career and still be able to receive an unemployment benefit for six months. That measure would take effect this year, but that will now be before 2026, Minister of Work David Clarinval (MR) confirmed in the Chamber on Tuesday.

That possibility would be introduced this year in the first instance. A cost of 41 million euros was registered in the initial tables for 2025. But in the latest budget notifications, that amount has been reduced to zero, Open VLD MP Vincent Van Quickenborne noted on Tuesday in the Social Affairs Chamber Committee.

Minister of Work David Clarinval (MR) confirmed that the entry into force will no longer be before 2025. « The measure is still being discussed within the government, » he gave the reason.

Van Quickenborne is happy with the delay. He fears that the measure will lead to abuse. « This gives people the chance to go on a world trip for six months, for example, let us postpone it every year, and then it will never happen. »
