Massive deficit goes again
PostNord, which arose in 2009 after a merger of the Danish and Swedish postal shops, has long struggled with financial challenges.
In the autumn, a loss of DKK 395 million for the first three quarters of 2024 was presented. By 2023, the total deficit of SEK 592 million was.
The new Post Act, which came into force at the turn of the year, has only made the situation worse. Without state subsidies and with a falling demand for letters – as much as 28 percent fewer in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year – Postnord has had to rethink his business.
Kim Pedersen, CEO of PostNord Denmark, has previously acknowledged that the amounts of letters would fall, but the development has been faster than the company had predicted.
In the future, PostNord will focus solely on package distribution. This means that the classic postal distribution in Denmark goes into the grave – and that PostNord must redefine itself as a pure package.
Next week, PostNord Denmark's accounts for 2024 are expected to be published. Until then, many employees will wait in excitement for what the new strategy means for their future.
