Porphyria: Pope Francis built cooperation and understanding with Orthodox churches

Pope Francis was a man who built peace and understanding among people and peoples, especially with the desire to develop cooperation with Orthodox churches, the Serbian patriarch announced on Monday Porphyria on the occasion of the death of the chief of the Catholic Church.

« I had the opportunity to meet with the late Pope, during his pontificate, so that I feel the obligation to testify today that he was a man who built peace and understanding among people and peoples, with a special desire to develop cooperation with Orthodox churches. The Serbian Orthodox Church is grateful for his deep understanding a statement by a condolence published by the SPC press service.

Patriarch, on behalf of the SPC, expressed condolences to « Roman diocese and the entire Roman Catholic Church. »

The SPC chief traveled to Moscow on Monday, where he would meet with the Russian patriarch Kirilo, SPC said.

On the occasion of the death of Pope Francis Cardinal and Archbishop of Belgrade, Ladislav Nemet assessed that the Pope left « a lasting and visible seal on the life of the Catholic Church and the general public », and that « his commitment to peace gave hope that peaceful dialogue and conversation could be solved by the worst problems. »

Cardinal Nemet emphasized that Pope Francis « had a heart for refugees, weak, poor, prisoners … », the archdiocese said.

« Let his example be a source of strength for all of us to continue our commitment to the peaceful solution of all problems, not only in our dear Serbia, but beyond, throughout the world, » said Cardinal Nemet.

The statement states that Nemet, as a cardinal, will follow their obligations in the Vatican « until the end of the election of a new Pope ».
