“Population handling attempts”
The Ministry of National Defense (MAPN) reports, on the InfoRadar platform, a series of misinformations that occur in the public space that resume the narrations of alleged steps that the authorities of the Romanian state would make for mobilizing reservists or for preparing the population for defense, in the context of the War in Ukraine.
« Both topics subject to attention represent attempts to manipulate the population, without any legal basis and unrelated to a real situation, » says the Romanian Ministry.
The first of these misinformations reports ‘the call to the emergency military training of young people with Romanian citizenship between 18 and 35 years from all over Romania, starting April 3, 2025’.
« We remind that the execution of the compulsory service as a military man in term and a short term was suspended during peacetime in Romania, starting with January 1, 2007, as provided by Law 395/2005 on the suspension during peace time of the compulsory military service and the transition to the military service on the basis of volunteering », points out.
The Ministry of National Defense recalls that he has repeatedly communicated that he did not take into account, at any time, the return to the compulsory military service, but only considers solutions to recruit volunteering reservists.
The second misinformation announces the so-called ‘mobilization exercises in preparation’, based on a press article referring to a mobilization exercise prepared by the National Army of the Republic of Moldova, and not by the Romanian authorities, as the authors of the material published by the Unimedia.info from Chisinau show.
In this regard, the MAPN states that, according to the functional duties, exercises of this kind and in our country, usually two or three times annually, activities that are announced in advance in the public space. The last such training action took place between October 14 and 18, 2024, in Buzău and Ialomița counties (Mobex BZ-IL-21 exercise). And for the year 2025 they are planned, towards the end of the first semester, exercises of this kind, which will be communicated publicly.
« It is expected that such misinformation will be reported and still, on various digital communication platforms, » the ministry shows.
