People will be able to go on Sunday to visit Pope Francis’s grave in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the day after the former Sovereign Pontiff was buried in his favorite church in central Rome, DPA reports.
Hundreds of thousands of people were expected to pay tribute to the pope who died on the second day at 88.
Basilica opened its doors on Sunday, at local time 07.00 (05.00 GMT), for the believers who settled in the queue from the early hours of the morning.
Pope Francis was buried on Saturday, after a job attended by 250,000 people in St. Peter’s Square and a funeral procession that traveled through the center of Rome to Santa Maria Maggiore.
The funeral of Pope Francec was more modest than in the case of other popes, as he wanted, but he enjoyed great popularity.
Francis died after suffering a stroke, followed by a coma and a cardiac arrest, after fighting acute respiratory failure, high blood pressure and other serious health problems.
He worked to death and many of those who paid him a last tribute have celebrated his dedication for peace, as well as for the protection of the poor and marginalized.
