Pope’s body is brought to Peter’s Church
Pope Francis participated in Sunday’s Easter fair and then died on Monday as a result of stroke and heart failure, after twelve years as Pope. He turned 88 years old.
On Wednesday, his body – which is in an open coffin – is taken from a private chapel in the residential residence to Peter’s Church. A procession with cardinals follows the coffin into the Peter’s Church where a ceremony will be held.
Then the public gets Access to the church, right up to Friday night. The funeral ceremony then starts at 10 o’clock on Saturday and takes place outdoors at Petersplatsen. Thousands are expected to participate.
Political leaders from all over the world will attend the funeral, including US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Prince William from Britain and France’s President Emmanuel Macron.
Pope Francis has desired To be buried in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore outside the Vatican City, and not in the Peter’s Church where many of his predecessors rest.
The so -called conclave, where a new pope is to be chosen, is not expected to begin before May 6, Reuters writes. Then vote -entitled cardinals, including Swedish bishop Anders Arborelius, lock himself into the Sixtin chapel to vote. A new pope can be chosen when at least two -thirds of the current cardinals say yes. White smoke is released from a chimney when the process is complete.
