Pope Leone XIV blessed the cyclists today, in front of the latest stage of « Giro D’Italia ».

The Pope welcomed the participants before the start of the 143 -kilometer stage, which began at the Vatican to pay homage to the new leader of the Catholic Church and bid farewell to Pope Francis before entering the official race.

Before passing through the Vatican, the « Pink Circle », Simon Yates and other cyclists shook hands with the Pope, who in return took on a pink jersey, traditionally worn by the race leader.

« Cycling is very important. Thank you for everything you do. Hope you always remember your role as a model for others. You are always welcome here, » Pope said.

« I hope for all of you to be a beautiful day. I thank you for everything you do. You are truly models for young people and as you have learned to take care of the body, the soul is always blessed. Be always attentive to the whole human being: body, mind and soul. Congratulations to everyone, » the Pope concluded.

The stop at the Vatican is said to have been one of Pope Francis’s latest decisions, who died on Monday Easter.
