Pope Leo XIV was in Luxembourg in 2024
Prime Minister Luc Frieden (CSV) congratulated the newly elected Pope Leo XIV. « In these times of fundamental geopolitical challenges, I express the hope that he can contribute to peace and justice in the world through his work, » Frieden explained to X on Thursday evening about two hours after the name of the new Pope was announced.
Peace divided a photo on X, on which he and the then cardinal Robert Prevost shake hands. « It was nice to meet us in Luxembourg last September, » wrote Frieden. Pope Francis and the Grand Ducal Pair can be seen in the background of the recording.
Pope Francis accompanied the prefect of the dicasterium for the bishops, an important authority in the Vatican Visit to Luxembourg for several hours. Francis and his now successor met in the Cercle Cité with members of the authorities and civil society and also took part in a meeting with Catholics in the cathedral.
Pope Leo XIV was elected early Thursday evening.
