Pope Leo ‘ – Who is Robert Prevost, the first Pontiff from the US
The American Cardinal Robert Prevost was named today, Thursday, May 8th, Pope Leo ID, which makes him the 267th Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and the successor of Pope Francis, who died last month.
The first words of Pope Leo ‘from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica were: « Peace to all of you ».
Who is Pope Leo ID
Born in Chicago Robert Francis Prevost, 69, served for two decades in Peru, where he became a bishop and a naturalized citizen, and then went up to the leadership of his international religious order.
As many people are anxious about whether Pope Francis’ agenda continues without exclusion or returning to a conservative dogmatic course, Prevost’s supporters present him as a balanced alternative.

Michel Falkone, 46, a priest in the Order of St. Augustine, whose previously led Cardinal Prevost, described his mentor and friend as « decent ».
According to the New York Times, Pope Leo is identified with Franciscus about his commitment to the poor and immigrants. On the Vatican’s official news website, he said last year that « the bishop should not be a little prince sitting in his kingdom. » On the contrary, he said, a ecclesiastical leader « is authentic to be humble, to be close to the people who serve, to walk with them, to suffer with them. »
Prevost, who was appointed by Francis in 2023 to run the Vatican’s office that selects and manages the bishops worldwide, has spent much of his life outside the United States. He was ordained in 1982 at the age of 27 and received a doctorate in Law at the Pontiff University of St. Thomas of Aquinas in Rome. In Peru there was a missionary, teacher and bishop.
His positions on LGBTKI+ community differ from Franciscan
According to NYT, while Francis said, « Who am I to judge? » When asked about gay clergy, Prevost has expressed less friendly views on the people of LGBTKI+ community.
In a 2012 speech to the bishops, he complained that the western media and popular culture cultivate « sympathy for beliefs and practices that contradict the Gospel ». He referred to the « homosexual lifestyle » and « alternative families consisting of homosexual companions and their adopted children ».
