Pope Leo donates the homeless in Rome 5000 Croissants – Diepresse.com
Together with the « Amitié France Italie » association, Vatican sets a « sign of care and friendship ».
Pope Leo XIV donated 5000 croissants to homeless in Rome on Friday – as a « sign of care and friendship » on the occasion of the official start of his pontificate. This gesture was made possible by the association « Amitié France Italie », which the Italians represents in France. Her President, Paolo Celi, a building contractor and real estate developer based in Nice, has been working with the Vatican Dicaster for Charity for many years.
Several times a year, Celi brings sweets and toys for poor children as well as numerous relief supplies for homeless people to the Vatican-including so-called Iglu tents, which are set up near the colonnades in the evening. The police tolerate this, following a express request from Pope Francis.
The late Pope had recognized Celi for his commitment a few months ago and appointed him a member of the papal family in the role of a « Gentiluomo ». Celi took part in various ceremonies during the Sedisvakanz as a vatican dignitaries, including at the reception of state and government heads during their visits to the grave of the deceased Pope and at his funeral on April 26. He was also present at the celebration last Sunday for the introduction of the new Pope and now takes part in the official dates of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate. (APA)
