Pope Francis’s body will be moved
Pope Francis’s body will be moved today to St. Peter’s Basilica, so that the believers can pay a final tribute to the Saturday funeral.
The Press Office of the Holy See announced on Tuesday that the funeral liturgy of Pope Francis will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 in St. Peter’s Square.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the dean of the Cardinal College, will preside in the Liturgy, which will be concelebrated by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops and priests from all over the globe.
The Eucharistic celebration will end with the last Commedatio and Vaicdtio, marking the beginning of Novemdiales, or nine days of mourning and liturgies for the rest of the soul of Pope Francis.
The body of the regretted Pope will then be taken to the basilica of St. Peter and then to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for the funeral.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will prescribe the rite of translation on April 23, which will start at 9:00 (local time) with a moment of prayer.
The procession will pass through the Santa Marta Square and the Romanian Protomucenic Square, according to the Press Office of the Holy See.
The procession will then go through the bells of the bells in St. Peter’s Square and will enter the Vatican basilica through the central door.
At the altar of the confession, Cardinal Camerlengo will prescribe the Liturgy of the Word, at the conclusion of which the visits to the Romanian Pontiff will begin.
St. Peter’s Basilica will remain open to the believers who want to pay tribute to the regretted Pope from 11:00 until midnight; Thursday from 7:00 am until midnight; and Friday from 7:00 to 19:00.
