Our Lady was to appear to Pope Liberius during sleep and ask for the construction of the basilica dedicated to her. It was in the middle of summer that snow fell, and in memory of this event every year, on August 5, white flakes fall into a faithful in the chapel. Hence the colloquial name of the Basilica of the Mother of God.
