Pope Francis takes his last time in front of dozens of leaders and thousands of believers

As a centuries -old tradition, the Swiss Guards, dressed in the colors of the Medici, send a deceased Pope today to the Vatican.

St. Peter awaits 50 heads of state, 50 government leaders and 10 monarchs. But along with them, a six -digit number of believers will fill the square.

Moreover – about 200-250 thousand – are expected at the funeral, the ceremony for which begins at 10 am local (11 Bulgarian) time. Their safety and that of the world leaders require a complex logistics operation with breadcrumbs with Italian police and military (some with opposite weapons) and with the Swiss Guards of the Vatican, the country with the smallest army (except area) in the world and with less than 1,000 inhabitants.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, gathered in Rome every day this week to discuss « logistics » issues, as well as initial conversations about a conclave, which is not expected to be before May 6.
