Pope Francis’ last hours: a few hypotheses about his death
Although Pope Francis had sunk in health problems in recent years, his death on Monday was shocking, as he had just dealt with severe pneumonia, giving the believers hope for amazing healing.
After 38 days in the hospital – a part of which he, according to his doctors’ confessions, was closer to death than to his life, his recovery was accepted by believers as a miracle. The Pope also did not hide that he enjoyed life and often appeared publicly to support her seekers.
According to the Holy See Bulletin, the Pope died on Monday morning from a brain stroke, which then caused a coma and thus disrupted the work of several organs, including the heart, leading to « irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse ».
What does the medical certificate say
The medical certificate is generally referred to as brain stroke, since without computed tomography it cannot be determined whether it is ischemic stroke – due to obstruction of blood vessels or hemorrhagic stroke due to the rupture of a blood vessel with the bloodstream in the brain.
The cause of the death of Francis I was announced
According to President of the Italian Cardiology Society Pasquale Perone Filaardi, interviewed by the Italian agency Ansa, « the most likely hypothesis is that it is a hemorrhagic stroke that has led to a coma, causing a cascade of events on other organs, including the heart and the cardiovascular system. »
High mortality after severe pneumonia
Italian television RAI reports that it is difficult to determine whether there is a connection between the numerous public commitments made by the Pope during its recovery, since after severe pneumonia, fatal events such as heart attacks and strokes are common in any conditions.
Only one pope in modern times lives longer than Francis
« The mortality rate is very high in the first two months after severe pneumonia, » Francesco Blasy, director of the Department of Internal Affairs and Pulmonology, noted to the Milan polyclinic to the Milan Polyclinic. |
Excessive stress from the last month may have played a role in a fragile state like that of Pope Francis, who until recently refused to end contact with believers.
The last days
The first official audience after the Pope’s release from the hospital was given to the British King Charles Third and his wife Camilla. The two chose Rome to celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary and the Pope was in good enough health to welcome them on April 10 in the Vatican. In doing so, he welcomed the king right.
In a wheelchair and with the nasal oxygen, the pope went almost 10 days ago to the Vatican Basilica to pray on the graves of his predecessors Pius X and Benedict XV – the Papi who tried in vain to stop the First World War.
His photos toured the world, inspiring that Francis would recover.
The Pope continued to leave his apartments – more and more often outdoors. He appeared surprisingly during the Palm Sunday meat (Tsvetnitsa), and was still able to speak in front of the believing in St. Peter’s Square.
« Why they, not me »
In the afternoon of Holy Thursday, he visited the prisoners at the Roman prison « Regina Celoi »:
« I like to do every year what Jesus did on Holy Thursday – washing his feet in prison, » he said to the 70 prisoners who were expecting him, adding, « This year I cannot do it, but I can and I want to be close to you. Every time I enter such a place, why do they, not me? » |
While this was not shown, the Pope’s health problems were serious, as the audience of US Vice President Vance was repeatedly postponed. The two still saw each other on Easter in a few minutes.
Immediately afterwards, the Pope took a long tour with an open jeep among tens of thousands of believers. Without saving himself, he accepts handshake, greetings and hugs to children, RaI says.
Pope Francis’ last words
Billions of people witnessed the Pope’s last words, at least those who were publicly said. They were heard two minutes after noon on Sunday, on Easter, when he appeared in the central loggia of the blessings of the Basilica « St. Peter » in the Vatican.
He is Bhutan in his wheelchair, for the blessing Urbi et orbi (to the city and the world). His usual message was pronounced by the cardinal as he did not have the strength to do it himself.
The only thing he says with grief and with a weak voice is « dear siblings, happy Easter. »
