Pope Francis doctors have a difficult decision: the tragedy?

During the treatment of the Pope, doctors had to cope with a difficult decision to stop or continue to treat treatment.

Chief Medical Officer Sergio Alfieri said in a statement to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that the critical moment took place on February 28, when the Pope was struggling with breathing difficulties and inhaled his own vomiting.

We had to choose to stop and leave or force things, and try all possible medicines and therapies, very risking that other organs are damaged. And finally we chose this path ” Alfieri said.

Alfieri, the leader of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, also said that Massimiliano Strappetti, Pope Francis Assistant, made the decision to continue the treatment. He allegedly said to him:

« Try everything, we won’t give up. We all thought about it. And no one gave up. »

Pope Francis left the institution on March 23, after a 38-day hospital stay-the longest time his election as a Pope spent in the hospital 12 years ago. He was repeatedly in a severe breathing crisis during his hospitalization, and Alfieri had previously noted that two of these had threatened his life.
