Pope Francis died: Estonia recall his visit and heritage
On Monday, April 21, 2025, in the 89th year of his life, Pope Francis died. The pontiff died in his residence in the Vatican after a long illness, including pneumonia and renal failure. The day before, he spent his last Easter blessing in the Square of St. Peter.
Francis became the first pontiff from Latin America and the first Jesuit on the throne of St. Peter. His pontificate, which began in 2013, was marked by progressive views on social issues, including the protection of minority rights, the fight against climate change and support for the poor.
