Political scientist: The biggest losers in local elections are Harmony; In Riga
The political scientist said that in the context of the overall elections, « Harmony » was quite large, as the party did not only gain seats in the Riga City Council, but also elsewhere in Latvia, such as Liepaja and Daugavpils City Council. Thus, in her opinion, this loss raises questions about the party’s further existence.
She said that one of the losers in the Riga municipal elections, in her opinion, was LPV, as the pre -election campaign and ratings showed that the Mayor of Riga candidate Ainars Slesers (LPV) would gain more success. In other parts of Latvia, the LPV is not very widely represented.
As another political force, which did not significantly reached the expected, the expert notes the party « For the Development of Latvia » with the plan of the Mayor of Riga, Juris Puce. « Of course, elsewhere in Latvia it shows that » Latvia’s development « is represented, but the Riga City Council failed, » the political scientist added.
She notes that the largest winners in the Riga Municipality were the Latvian electorate parties, as the parties managed to convince the voters and collect votes for the creation of a potential coalition, despite criticism of both the Riga City Council and the government. Thus, « Latvian parties » did not lose their power in the Riga City Council.
The political scientist added that the absolute winner could be the former Daugavpils Mayor Andrejs Elksnins’s « Sarauj, Latgale! », Which won 14 of the 15 deputies in Daugavpils.
In her opinion, the « bright loser » is the Greens and Farmers’ Union (ZZS), represented by Andris Rāviņš, the chairman of Jelgava, who has minimized the common list of « sovereign power » and « Jaunlatvians ». « This is definitely painful for the ZZS, because the party Jelgava had a long -term platform, but Jelgava residents want more dynamic development, » the political scientist added.
She said that in many parts of Latvia, voters were satisfied with the development of the county, so several municipalities had retained existing parties. In other places, however, voters do not feel supported from the central power, so parties against existing, central power were better.
