Political crisis in the Netherlands because of immigration
Extremely right -wing Dutch right leader Geert Wilders withdrew his PVV party from the ruling coalition, due to a disagreement on immigration, this withdrawal opening the way to anticipated elections in the Netherlands.
« Our plan for asylum right has not been signed … PVV leaves the coalition, » Wilders wrote on the social network X, with reference to his program meant to tighten the policy towards immigrants and asylum seekers.
This new government crisis occurs a few weeks before the NATO summit that will take place in the Netherlands.
At the end of May, Wildres convened an improvised press conference to announce that his patience has reached ‘the end’ and that he will make the coalition explode if his plan for restriction of immigration will not be applied ‘within a few weeks at most’.
This plan especially provided for the closing of the borders in front of the asylum applicants, a reinforcement of the border controls and the expel of the dual citizenship convicted for an offense.
The far -right leader has threatened several times that he will withdraw his party from the coalition, but the government led by Prime Minister Dick Schoof has survived so far.
Political and legal experts have criticized these proposals, qualifying them as unattainable or illegal, some estimating that Wilders seeks to cause a crisis to fall the government.
Following the latest elections, PVV won 37 of the 150 places in the Dutch Parliament, which made it by far the first party of the coalition.
Recent opinion polls shows that the support that this party has currently benefits. However, it is still among the three main parties, along with the VVD Liberal Party and the Labor/Green Left Party.
