A Polish couple from Wielsbeke was arrested on suspicion of murder of a 39-year-old countryman from Avelgem. The victim had been missing for a week when his packed body was found in the garden of their apartment.
Last Wednesday the body of a man was discovered in the garden of an apartment building in Sint-Baafs-Vijve. It turned out to be a 39-year-old Pole who had been missing for a week. Since he left the previous Wednesday at work, nobody had had contact with him.

The days afterwards his car and his identity card were found, the latter only a stone’s throw from where his body was eventually found. Friends of the victim had traced him himself and found his body behind a gate between a few garage boxes along the Vlasstraat and the garden of the accompanying apartment.

It was soon clear that there was bad intent in the game. The body of the missing man was at the back of the garden, wrapped in plastic. The residents of the apartment, a 46-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, both with Polish nationality, were arrested on suspicion of murder.
In the meantime, they were brought before the investigating judge, who ruled that there were enough clues to take them in custody. Next week the couple will come to the council chamber, who will decide on their further arrest. (Jof)
