Polician saves boy (2) from drowning after falling in pond of Stadspark Lier (Lier)
A playing boy ended up in the water in the Stadspark van Lier on Saturday afternoon. The child of two and a half years old could be resuscitated on the spot. A chief inspector of the police administered the first worries.

Due to the beautiful spring weather it was extra busy in the Lierse Stadspark. But the atmosphere then turned into a child in the water in the course of the afternoon. That had just escaped the parents’ attention.
« A boy of 2.5 years old ends up in the water near the public barbecues. At that time a family meeting was underway. It was an accident, » explains spokeswoman Karen Vervoort of local police Lier.
Very slow breathing
The police teams were alerted and were quickly on site. It was a police officer who administers the first worries. « The family was able to get the boy out of the water. After the boy had taken out of the water, his breathing went very slowly. A chief inspector of our police force immediately started the resuscitation. He has cleared the child’s airways and has pumped a number of times to get breathing going, » says Vervoort.
The medical services then took over the resuscitation. The fire brigade came to the scene to visually protect the medical intervention from the bystanders. Fortunately, the resuscitation attempt was successful. « The boy got through and then brought to the UZA in Edegem to take care of and observe it. »
According to Karen Vervoort, the incident once again shows the importance of resuscitation techniques. « Our people are of course trained for that. It shows once again that it is very important that as many people as possible know what to do in such critical situations, » it sounds.
