Police shoots suspicious death after a deadly stabbing in Turnhout: « He stormed at the police with a knife » (Turnhout)

In Turnhout two people were killed on Monday morning in a stabbing and the subsequent police intervention. The Antwerp public prosecutor confirms the facts. According to the public prosecutor, it looks like a stabbing where a dead person fell, the police shot the suspected perpetrator.
The precise circumstances of the drama will be investigated even further. The stabbing would have come from a fight between two men in an apartment block on the Joseph Simonslaan. When the police arrived, the suspected perpetrator, still armed with a knife, would not have vomited and would have behaved aggressively towards the agents. The man was shot and died of his injuries.

« The police region Turnhout was called at 3 o’clock on Sunday night for an incident in an apartment in the Jozef Simonslaan in Turnhout, » says parquet spokesperson Kristof Aerts. « In the apartment, the police found a man who had already died. The suspected perpetrator who had stabbed the victim could not be calmed. He came up with a knife on the police. The police shot the perpetrator and that man also died. »
The judicial lab and the law doctor arrived. The investigating judge has also abandoned. The surroundings of the Jozef Simonslaan is closed. The public prosecutor could not yet provide information about the identity and ages of the two fatalities.

« I let my dog out this morning around 6 am, and saw a lot of police further down the street, » says local resident Ewa Kubacka. “Apparently something serious happened in an apartment on the corner of the street. I walked around a bit, but there is nothing to see on the street itself. I learn that someone has been killed and that the police have shot the perpetrator. I find that so bad for that agent that the rest of his life is carrying. Also always hang around young people. ”
Mayor: « terrible for those involved »
Mayor Hannes Anaf (Vooruit) has received little information about the incident with a fatal outcome. « I also have to wait for news from the public prosecutor’s office. So I only know that someone was stabbed and that the man wanted to plunge into the police with the knife when the agents intervened. Bad news about Turnhout again? That was also my first idea when I was woken this morning. But this is an incident that can happen everywhere and unfortunately that is not a terrible thing. »
