Late Sunday evening, both center guards and more citizens had to contact the police as something unusually took place behind the glass facade in the Field’s shopping center at Amager.
The clock was approaching 22.50 when the messages began to tick in – and the burglary in the jewelry store Carat was already in full swing.
The burglars had apparently planned their progress with precision. They broke through both glass doors and grids to enter the store, and well inside they crushed several stands before escaping with an unknown amount of expensive jewelry.
Police technicians are now working to clarify the overall yield, while at the same time tracking and reviewing video surveillance is carried out.
Smoke and light glimpse aroused sight
The messages from the witnesses were not only based on the sound of crushed glass. Several also described strange red glimpses and smoke development from the area around the store, causing the police to call the ammunition clearing service (EOD) to exclude possible explosions.
« Several of the reviews were that witnesses had seen red glimpses and smoke development in there. So EOD was out there to investigate if anything was blown up, » says Chief of Police Anders Frederiksen of the Copenhagen Police according to Extra Bladet.
However, that did not turn out to be the case. Instead, police are working on another hypothesis of the perpetrators’ behavior.
« Our presumption is that they have ignited some smoke, maybe fireworks, and we think it may have been because they were trying to blur yourself on surveillance, » adds Frederiksen.
More perpetrators are suspected
The police do not yet want to disclose how many perpetrators are believed to be behind, but it has been confirmed that you are looking for more than one. The burglary was aimed at the jewelry store alone, and there is nothing to suggest that other stores in the center were hit.
The investigation continues on Monday, with police working to secure technical clues and review surveillance material in the hope of identifying the perpetrators.
