Zagreb police have arrested and submitted with a criminal complaint with the detention supervisor of a 60-year-old man for threats and attempts to extortion of tens of thousands of euros for a non-existent debt of a 65-year-old woman, the Zagreb Police Directorate (PUZ) reported on Sunday.
The PUZ states that the suspect is a 60-year-old from March 19 to April 3, « according to a predefined intent of obtaining unlawful property benefits, he committed the criminal offense of extortion in an attempt at the expense of a 65-year-old » in the western part of Zagreb.
The suspect agreed a meeting at a catering facility with a 65-year-old woman. At their first meeting in March, the suspect threatened her with the aim of paying him the amount of tens of thousands of euros in the name of a non -existent debt, police added.
A week later, « according to the previous telephone agreement and the threats addressed, they met again in the same catering facility when a 65-year-old paid him a portion of the requested money in the name of a non-existent cash debt, » but police arrested him.
Serious threats that « caused a sense of distress and fear for the life of a member of her family as well as for her life » caused her to address the police rightly to be discovered and the suspect was arrested, « the Zagreb Police said.
Following the completed criminal investigation, the police have filed a criminal complaint against the 60-year-old for the criminal offense of extortion, the suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor, while a special report was submitted to the Municipal Criminal State Attorney’s Office in Novi Zagreb.
